Discussion:
Non-JVM Datomic Clients?

Hi,

I have worked with Datomic before and it was fantastic. Now I work for a
company that has been wrestling with issues related to temporal reasoning
which could be greatly alleviated by some of the features Datomic offers.

Unfortunately, we are not a JVM shop (yet), so I was wondering if releasing
non-JVM client libraries (e.g. in Javascript) is on the roadmap for the
next 3-6 months.

Thanks,

Hi Laszlo,

In January I encountered the same issue looking for Datomic client
alternatives to the JVM stack. I needed something for a NodeJS service and
ended up using the non-actively maintained Datomic REST service. Somebody
argued that it may fit my use case and I may keep using it. Four months
have passed and we've already built our service interfacing with Datomic
through REST without considerable problems. If you want to read the
discussion, visit this thread
<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/datomic/xeo9my3gC88>.

There is also a request for a Node client for Datomic in the official
suggestion page but we haven't got any response / status about that.

Regards.

Hi Joshua,

I am aware of the REST client, however, it's been deprecated since the last
major release.

I can only speculate:

1) Either Cognitect is working providing on client libraries for non-JVM
environment
2) or they haven't seen much use in the non-JVM space, so decided to drop it

The 2) scenario, maybe unlikely, but gives enough to worry about.

Regards.

Chiming in because I have been working on a slow sell of Datomic within my
organization. We are in the process of migrating a number of Ruby and Rails
services over to Clojure. Some of these Ruby and Rails services may live on
for quite some time, though. Any information related to the Datomic team's
intentions for clients (even if it includes a little speculation) would be
appreciated.

Cheers,
Devin
